Mini Toiletry Bag

Jess from "the Sewing Rabbit" came up with an ingenious idea to offer a pattern membership for fellow sewing enthusiasts. For a small fee you can subscribe to be included in this wonderful group of ladies, and receive three patterns a month, every month. So who couldn't pass that up? This girl! I have been waiting for something like this to come along and help get me motivated to sew again since Cora was born. (Her outfit in the photo was the last thing I had sewn lol oops!)

Also, with starting a blog I couldn't think of a more suitable way to dive in head first and show the sewing community my passion for all things handmade.

This months patterns were the Toiletry Bag, Knight Hoodie and Madeline Dress. Since I hadn't sewn with a zipper before, I really wanted to challenge myself and actually use the zipper foot that had been  waiting ever so patiently in the compartment on my machine. I decided on the toiletry bag because I had just the right amount of materials lying around to make a quaint, little bag.

In the pattern Jess calls for a leather bottom and felt body pieces. She also says we could use quilting cotton, so that's what I did. I had picked up a couple fat quarters from Joann's not too long ago and thought it would be perfect for the body. Since I didn't have any leather just hanging out, I stumbled across some felt from a project long ago and knew that would work well. And the pink zipper... Well, that was a whole new experience!

I was so determined with this pesky thing! Trial and error was key for me, and it took a couple goes that's for sure. My seam ripper was put to good use and I tested my patience. But perseverance pays off, and I am so satisfied with the finished product!

It holds the right amount of things that I carry around on a daily basis. And those things are: my iPhone, EOS lip balm and a trusty hair clip.

This week I will be conquering the Knight Hoodie and I am ever so excited to make Madison something that is girly yet edgy. Wish me luck!
